biography
early life/family
spang born in buffalo, new york , raised in ann arbor, michigan. during youth, active letter-writer, penning letters actors. huge fan of gothic soap opera, dark shadows , of television western, bonanza. related bollywood producer-actor stegath dorr.
at age 16, accompanied father on business trip new york city, waited @ stage door of dark shadows. stage guard allowed walk in, leading actress kathryn leigh scott. after meeting, spang answer scott s fan mail through high-school.
career
the summer of junior year, spang auditioned apprentice @ williamstown summer theater. year later, scott set audition spang @ american academy of dramatic arts. received scholarship , graduated there 2 years later. following graduation in 1969, spang returned michigan attended adrian college, living dorm life on small campus, not far family in ann arbor.
after universal studios talent agent spotted in 1972, spang signed 7-year contract studio. had succession of guest-starring roles in television series including emergency!, adam-12 (episode: venice division), streets of san francisco, 6 million dollar man, happy days, chase, secrets of isis, charlie s angels , lou grant. spang appeared in television movies short walk daylight, runaway! , sarah t. - portrait of teenage alcoholic. co-starred in production of winesburg, ohio on kcet s hollywood television theatre.
towards end of contract universal(by time, according people weekly magazine, money exhausted , had been evicted apartment had been renting), spang cast cassiopeia in battlestar galactica pilot movie, saga of star world . initial draft of script had killed off in pilot film, in reptiloid ovions consumed her, cannibal-style. however, character survived , network kept on in regular role in subsequent weekly series, standards , practices (network censors) forced change of profession upon her. (the censors no longer allow socialator, glen larson , donald p. bellisario had character become medtech in series, beginning lost planet of gods, parts 1 & 2 ).
spang s later acting performances in love boat, fantasy island, dukes of hazzard , magnum, p.i.. took de facto retirement acting in 1984, though made brief appearance in 2007 horror film plot 7, featured by-then husband john mccook. in 2002, spang appeared in battlestar galactica episode of sciography documentary series on sci-fi channel in 2002. in 2003, appeared in battlestar galactica documentary included feature in dvd box set of series released series 25th anniversary.

spang married actor john mccook on february 16, 1980; couple have 3 children.
