as part of transition, aetc opted implement dual training track whereby usaf , land-based usn , nato/allied officer student navigator training transition 12th flying training wing (12 ftw) @ randolph afb, texas utilizing t45 navigation simulator , flying t-43 bobcat (both relocated mather afb) , adding t-1 jayhawk usaf students. relocated programs renamed specialized undergraduate navigator training (sunt) usaf , usaf-sponsored nato/allied students, , joint specialized undergraduate navigator training (jsunt) usn , usn-sponsored nato/allied students. usaf students graduating sunt assigned b-52, c-130, ac-130, ec-130, hc-130, lc-130, mc-130, wc-130, kc-135, e-3, e-8, rc-135 , oc-135 aircraft.


at same time, pre-selected cohort of usaf officer student navigators destined weapon systems officers in f-15e strike eagle, b-1 lancer, and, retirement of ef-111 raven, electronic warfare officers providing usaf manning of joint usn-usaf ea-6b prowler squadrons, complete joint flight training program established between 19 af , naval air training command / chief of naval air training (cnatra) training air wing 6 @ naval air station pensacola, florida. in latter program, prospective usaf wsos , ewos follow same training track usn , usmc student naval flight officers destined tactical fighter, strike , electronic attack aircraft, flying t-34c turbomentor in primary training until t-34c s replacement t-6 texan ii, usaf t-1 jayhawk aircraft on detached operations @ nas pensacola, , usn/usmc t-39 sabreliner aircraft in intermediate , advanced training under tutelage of usn, usaf , usmc instructors.


in 2009, transition of usaf navigators combat systems officers, merger of sunt undergraduate combat systems officer training (ucsot), , pursuant additional brac directives, 12 ftw established 479th flying training group (479 ftg) 2 flying training squadrons , operations support squadron geographically-separated unit (gsu) @ naval air station pensacola, florida.


pursuant usaf policy changes, aetc , cnatra discontinued joint training @ training air wing 6 establishment of 479 ftg. although nas pensacola remains principal base student naval flight officer (snfo) training u.s. navy , u.s. marine corps, 479 ftg operates independently of program own usaf t-6 texan ii , t-1 jayhawk aircraft. upon establishment of 479 ftg @ nas pensacola, remaining legacy navigator training squadrons had relocated former mather afb randolph afb in 1992 inactivated , remaining t-43 bobcat aircraft retired.


starting in summer of 2010, following completion of initial flight screening (ifs) @ pueblo memorial airport, colorado usaf student pilot counterparts, usaf cso students undergo undergraduate combat systems officer training (ucsot) 479 ftg. merging 3 previous usaf undergraduate navigator training (unt) tracks formerly known navigator track, weapon systems officer (wso) track , electronic warfare officer (ewo) track 1 coherent training cycle, first ucsot class (11-01) under new syllabus commenced training on 5 may 2010 , graduated on 15 april 2011. today, usaf csos continue fill of mentioned multi-place usaf combat aircraft exception usn has since retired of ea-6b prowlers , usaf provides few csos 4 of usn s thirteen electronic attack squadrons flying ea-18g growler. 4 squadrons land based , not deploy aboard aircraft carriers.
