shoulder anatomy
the rotator cuff anatomical term given group of 4 muscles , tendons act stabilize shoulder. these muscles supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor , subscapularis , hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity during movement. cuff adheres glenohumeral capsule , attaches head of humerus. together, these keep humeral head in glenoid cavity, preventing upward migration of humeral head caused pull of deltoid muscle @ beginning of arm elevation. infraspinatus , teres minor, along anterior fibers of deltoid muscle, responsible external rotation of arm. 4 tendons of these muscles converge form rotator cuff tendon. tendon, along articular capsule, coracohumeral ligament, , glenohumeral ligament complex, blend confluent sheet before insertion humeral tuberosities. infraspinatus , teres minor fuse near musculotendinous junctions, while supraspinatus , subscapularis tendons join sheath surrounds biceps tendon @ entrance of bicipital groove.
