the fim born fédération internationale des clubs motocyclistes (ficm), founded in paris, france, on 21 december 1904. british auto-cycle union (acu) 1 of founding members. in 1906, ficm dissolved, reborn in 1912 headquarters located in england. 6 days reliability trial held next year, first international event held new incarnation.


the name changed fédération internationale motocycliste (fim) in 1949, same year saw first race of famed road racing world championship grand prix. headquarters transferred geneva, switzerland in 1959.


1994 saw headquarters relocated, time mies, switzerland, , occupy own building first time, shaped stylized motorcycle. name changed again in 1998 fédération internationale de motocyclisme @ congress in cape town, south africa. same year, fim given provisional status of recognition international olympic committee, , gained full status in 2000 @ 2000 summer olympics in sydney, australia.


2004 marked organization s centenary, , celebrations held @ congress in paris in october. since 2006, vito ippolito (venezuela) first non-european president of fim.
