one form of unspoken communication between drivers flash headlights on or off once or twice indicate passing truck has cleared passed vehicle , may safely change lanes in front of signaling vehicle. flashing of high beams discouraged since driver looking in mirror see if clear move on , bright light of high beams can temporarily blind driver. passing driver may flash trailer or marker lights indicate thanks. signal used other motorists signal truck drivers.


continual flashing of headlights or high beams after emerging around corner beside high wall or roadway out of sight oncoming traffic alert truck driver in oncoming lanes accident or other obstruction ahead , warn him reduce speed or proceed caution. since truck-driver language has no signal not move in front of me, nor has understood length of time turning headlights or high beams on or off, flashing high-beams not move in front of me may misinterpreted mean truck clear proceed lane change in front of vehicle giving signal.

as rule, signaled vehicle behind switching between left- , right-turn signal several times, whereas turning on hazard-warning lights (both turn signals) means slow down; danger ahead . cars use hazard-warning lights , in trucks distinction necessary. truck blocks view of drivers behind it, hence distinction must made between letting me pass , danger in front, may brake hard! turning on left-turn signal (in right-hand traffic country) when vehicle behind attempts overtake means off; lane not clear , , turning on right-turn signal means go ahead; lane clear .


truck drivers use flashing headlights warn drivers in oncoming lane(s) of police patrol down road. though not official, 2 consecutive flashes indicate police patrol, whereas rapid series of flashing indicates dmv or other law-enforcement agency controls truck drivers. during day time, latter accompanied signaling driver making circle both hands (as if holding tachograph ring).


flashing headlights vehicle in front (intended other driver see in mirror) has 2 meanings. long flashes used signal truck driver clear return lane. series of rapid flashes means re doing stupid and/or dangerous in not move in front, trailer not clear! or m overtaking, move aside .


truckers use 4 ways flashing steep hill, mountain roads , on ramps on express ways let others know traveling @ slow speed , cautious approaching them.

in europe, general rule truckers in right hand driving country raise left hand , open hand fingers extended without waving @ palm facing forward, known flat hand . or shorter version extend fingers while still keeping palm in contact steering wheel. raising right hand used in same way rare.
