olympics

euroleague

fiba basketball world cup

the world championship basketball, fiba basketball world cup, invites 4 wild cards complete 24-team field. teams have participate in qualifying world cup, have apply one, , fiba not allowed more 3 teams same continent in order selected. setup began in 2006, italy, puerto rico, serbia , montenegro, , turkey selected fiba; turkey made best performance, reaching quarterfinals. in 2010, fiba selected germany, lithuania, lebanon, , russia wild cards, lithuania finishing third, , russia making quarterfinals. 2014 fiba basketball world cup, fiba selected brazil, finland, greece, , turkey; 2014 last time fiba select wild cards, 2019 fiba basketball world cup no longer have wild cards when expands 32 teams. perennial top 2 fiba oceania team namely australia , new zealand wild card teams of fiba asia cup 2017 in lebanon. these 2 teams part of fiba asia in basketball tournaments including fiba world qualifying tournament fiba world cup 2019 in china.


european club rugby competitions

rugby union s analogue euroleague european rugby champions cup, replaced previous top-level club competition, heineken cup, starting 2014–15 season. champions cup maintains system created heineken cup in wild card teams advance competition s knockout stages. starting in 2014–15, organiser of champions cup, european professional club rugby, introduced type of wild card second-level european rugby challenge cup.

with expansion of super rugby 18 teams in 2016, featuring permanent sixth franchise south africa , new teams based in argentina , japan, competition format changed again.


the competition divided australasian group, including australian , new zealand teams, , african group, consisting of south african teams plus argentine , japanese franchises. in turn, australasian group divided australia , new zealand conferences, , african group split africa 1 , africa 2 conferences. in 2011–15 system, conference winners receive playoff berths. number of wild cards increase four, 3 top non-winners australasian group , top non-winner african group, again based on competition points, earning spots.


philippine basketball association

in philippine basketball association, playoffs done after elimination (in 2005-06, classification) round top 2 teams best records given semi-final byes, next 3 given quarterfinal byes, next 4 given entry wildcard phase, , tenth team eliminated.
