moody park


on southern artery out of claremont, route 12, stood highland view, summer home of claremont native william henry harrison moody (1842–1925), made fortunes businessman , shoe manufacturer in boston area, kept residence in hometown until death. large william h. h. moody estate known horses , 5 large barns (the last of burned in 2004 lightning strike), once hosted several hundred imported horses on over 500 acres (2.0 km). victorian farmhouse stands @ top of arch road. in march 1916, 175-acre (71 ha) portion of estate donated moody city of claremont city park, entrance of on maple avenue; facilities include tennis. lone access road leads through coniferous forest top of hill, maintained large field city, large, open-air stone structure suitable picnics. park has several miles of interconnected walking trailways; several of these trails terminate @ boston , maine railroad.
