there 3 major types of truck driver employment:

owner-operators (also known o/os, or doublestuffs ) individuals own trucks drive , can either lease trucks contract trucking company haul freight company using own trucks, or haul loads number of companies , self-employed independent contractors. there ones lease truck company , make payments on buy in 2 5 years.
company drivers employees of particular trucking company , drive trucks provided employer.
independent owner-operators own own authority haul goods , drive own truck, possibly owning small fleet anywhere 1-10 trucks, maybe few 2 or 3 trucks.
