porter signed league 1 sheffield united on 15 july 2011, signing two-year contract.


2011–12 season

porter began 2011–12 pre-season goal in 1–1 friendly draw blackpool on 31 july. made full debut blades, starting against former club oldham athletic, in 2–0 away win on opening day of season. replaced daniel bogdanović after 78 minutes of play. porter scored first goal club against yeovil town on 27 august @ huish park goal of game.


after helping side play-offs, porter scored decisive goal send blades through 2012 football league 1 play-off final @ wembley stadium side beat stevenage 1–0 in semi-final second leg on 14 may, following 0–0 draw in first leg. sheffield united went on lose final huddersfield town on penalties, porter replacing richard cresswell in 85th minute of normal time. porter concluded season having made 44 appearances, scoring 8 goals.


2012–13 season

after lengthy period of negotiation, porter agreed new two-year deal sheffield united in july 2012. described first season club frustrating m hoping kick on year . however, first goal of new season didn t arrive until 3 november, scored winning goal in 2–1 fa cup win against bristol rovers.


porter suffered injury lay-off through of december 2012 , january 2013. meanwhile, sheffield united manager danny wilson declared there had been interest other clubs in porter.


shrewsbury town loan

after sitting in stands watching sheffield united defeat shrewsbury town 2–1 @ new meadow on 9 february 2013, porter sent out on loan shrewsbury in initial one-month loan deal on 13 february. porter hoped run of games , added ll goals . did scoring ten minutes debut during 2–0 win on tranmere rovers @ prenton park on 15 february, playing full 90 minutes. after 1 month shrewsbury , having made 5 appearances, porter returned sheffield.


return sheffield united

having been told blades manager danny wilson seize opportunity when selected in first-team, porter made immediate impact after being introduced half-time substitute dave kitson in first match club since return shrewsbury loan. scored equalising goal 20 minutes after arriving on pitch earn 1–1 draw walsall on 6 april 2013. following wilson s dismissal manager, caretaker manager chris morgan selected porter start first game in charge on 13 april. porter scored opening goal of game in 2–0 win on swindon town. goal represented personal milestone porter, being 100th career goal. ended season 4 goals united in 28 appearances.


2013–14 season , chesterfield loan

again out of favour @ sheffield united, porter signed on loan league 2 chesterfield on 4 october 2013 1 month. made debut on 5 october 81st-minute substitute, replacing gary mcsheffrey in 4–3 away defeat morecambe. made 3 league appearances , 1 football league trophy appearances before returning sheffield united.


on return sheffield, porter s former manager david weir had been replaced nigel clough, had played under @ derby county. clough willing allow porter chance fight place in first-team. made first start since chesterfield loan on 9 november 2013 in fa cup first round tie colchester united. scored late penalty kick hand blades 3–2 win. finished season 41 appearances sheffield united eleven goals scored.


2014–15 season

sheffield united had option automatically extend porter s contract further 12-months following expiry of original two-year deal. option not exercised after club decided offer porter alternate deal, while still keeping player on retained list . after delaying signing reduced-terms offer, porter signed new one-year deal on 10 june 2014.


the club planned let porter leave club on loan during january transfer window. revealed in january 2015 2 potential buyers had spoken porter availability on permanent transfer after being told surplus requirements @ bramall lane. after making 5 appearances in 2014–15 season, clough announced porter able leave club on free transfer.
