born in vitoria-gasteiz, Álava, basque country, calderón started professional career alicante cf in segunda división b, achieving 2 first-place finishes , 1 third during three-year spell seeing team consecutively fail in promotion play-offs.


in 2007, moved deportivo alavés (he had represented c , b-teams in career), playing in 2 segunda división seasons – serving team captain – , suffering relegation in second year.


brighton & hove albion

on 7 january 2010, after spell on trial, calderón signed football league 1 team brighton & hove albion on contract until end of season. made club debut 9 days later, in 2–1 win @ walsall, , scored first goal seagulls in away fixture (also 2–1 win), against charlton athletic on 23 february.


calderón s offer of new contract @ brighton withdrawn after agreed join league 1 rivals southampton in may 2010. however, on 10 june, player signed new three-year deal brighton, manager gus poyet claiming calde quality player , our first-choice right-back... .


calderón scored 8 goals in 2010–11 season, including first-half strike in 4–3 victory on dagenham & redbridge helped albion secure promotion championship. subsequently signed one-year extension contract, keeping him @ club until 2014.


calderón netted first goal of 2011–12 in 2–0 home win on bristol city – thunderous drive 25 yards. appeared predominantly right midfielder in 2014–15, scoring 4 times , being subsequently voted player of season.


later years

on 9 july 2016, aged 34, free agent calderón signed one-year contract cypriot first division club anorthosis famagusta fc. on 19 july 2017, switched indian super league chennaiyin fc.
