perch (apss-313), polar icecap, 1952–53.
from august 1951 march 1952, perch underwent overhaul @ mare island. 1952 1954, perch trained, making reconnaissance-runs , raids on several alaskan , hawaiian islands. in january 1955 perch made cruise westpac conducting reconnaissance , raid on iwo jima , observed other islands in bonin chain. periods between far eastern cruises, perch performed type training , intertype amphibious exercises in san diego area.
perch, again classified submarine transport, apss-313, on 24 october 1956, departed san diego 5 november reconnaissance exercise in panama canal area, returning san diego 11 december. in late 1957 made reconnaissance voyage san diego hawaii , alaska, , spent of 1958 , 1959 in amphibious training exercises in san diego area marines , underwater demolition teams.
in december 1959 perch departed san diego, decommissioned on 31 march 1960, , entered mare island group of pacific reserve fleet @ vallejo, calif.
