when ancient roman emperors came winning battle, built triumphal arch monument themselves. there several of these monuments in rome in other parts of italy, , general design of big arch @ centre, , smaller lower arch or doorway on either side. architect leon battista alberti used design front of church of sant andrea in mantua. used same pattern of tall , arched, low , square, down inside of church well. copied many other architects. first building use columns encompassing 2 orders, called giant order.

when came building palaces, rich people of renaissance had different needs roman emperors, architects had use rules make new sort of grand building. these renaissance palaces 3 stories high , quite plain on outside. on inside there courtyard, surrounded beautiful columns , windows. architects michelozzo worked cosimo de medici, looked @ roman colisseum (sports arena) 3 stories high rows of arches.

the famous church in rome ancient church had been built on grave of st. peter. 1500 falling down. pope decided instead of repairing it, should pulled down , brand new church should built. time finished, lots of important artists had worked on design, changed dramatically, becoming more of baroque example renaissance one. among architects present on site there donato bramante, raphael, antonio da sangallo younger, michelangelo, pirro ligorio, giacomo barozzi da vignola, giacomo della porta, , carlo maderno. has 1 of magnificent domes in world. has been copied in many countries.

this country house built andrea palladio (and vincenzo scamozzi after death) 1566. square building looks same every side. @ centre, there dome. on every side large porch (portico), roman temple. such elegant design other architects used same style can seen on churches, houses , palaces, including white house.
