the british , germans famed in shipbuilding during great era of ocean liners. in ireland, harland & wolff shipyard of belfast particularly innovative , succeeded in winning trust of many shipping companies, such white star line. these gigantic shipyards employed large portion of population of cities , built hulls, machines, furnitures , lifeboats. among other well-known british shipyards swan, hunter & wigham richardson, builder of rms mauretania, , john brown & company, builder of rms lusitania.


germany had many shipyards on coast of north sea , baltic sea, including blohm & voss , ag vulcan stettin. many of these shipyards destroyed during world war ii. however, managed recover , continue building ships.
