1.1 relations
1.2 branches
1.3 tibial-fibular trunk

structure
relations

anteriorly: popliteal surface of femur, knee joint, , popliteus muscle.
posteriorly: popliteal vein , tibial nerve, fascia, , skin.
laterally: biceps femoris , lateral condyle of femur in upper part, , plantaris, lateral gastrocnemius in lower part.
medially: semimembranosus , medial condyle of femur in upper part, , tibial nerve, popliteal vein, medial head of gastrocnemius in lower part.

branches

the branches of popliteal artery are:

anterior tibial artery
posterior tibial artery
sural artery
medial superior genicular artery
lateral superior genicular artery
middle genicular artery
lateral inferior genicular artery
medial inferior genicular artery

muscular branches of popliteal artery supply hamstring, gastrocnemius, soleus, , plantaris muscles. superior muscular branches of popliteal artery have clinically important anastomoses terminal part of deep femoral , gluteal arteries.

tibial-fibular trunk

the fibular artery typically arises posterior tibial artery. therefore, posterior tibial artery proximal fibular artery origin called tibial-peroneal trunk or tibial-fibular trunk , said popliteal artery bifurcates tibial-fibular trunk , anterior tibial artery.
