Design and development Parrot AR.Drone

ar.drone pre-production prototype

the parrot ar.drone unveiled @ international ces 2010 in las vegas along demonstration of ios applications used control it. along ar.freeflight, application designed free operation of drone, parrot released ar.race, allowing users take part in solo games, or interact other drones in combat simulations.

the airframe of ar.drone, constructed nylon , carbon fiber parts, measures 57 cm (22 in) across. 2 interchangeable hulls supplied airframe, 1 designed indoor , 1 external flight. indoor hull made epp foam, , encases circumference of blades protection. outdoors-use hull made lightweight plastic, , allows increased maneuverability. in total, ar.drone has 6 degrees of freedom, miniaturized inertial measurement unit tracking pitch, roll , yaw use in stabilisation.

inside airframe, range of sensors assist flight, enabling interface used pilots simpler, , making advanced flight easier. onboard computer runs linux operating system, , communicates pilot through self-generated wi-fi hotspot. onboard sensors include ultrasonic altimeter, used provide vertical stabilization 6 m (19 ft 8 in). rotors powered 15 watt, brushless motors powered 11.1 volt lithium polymer battery. provides approximately 12 minutes of flight time @ speed of 5 m/s (11 mph). coupled software on piloting device, forward-facing camera allows drone build 3d environment, track objects , drones, , validate shots in augmented reality games.

ar.drone 2.0 in flight indoor hull

the successor original drone, ar.drone 2.0 unveiled @ ces las vegas 2012. rather redesigning product, improvements made functionality, along developing larger ecosystem support pilots. equipment on board ar.drone 2.0 upgraded improve drone s function. camera quality increased 720p, , many of onboard sensors made more sensitive, allowing greater control. ultrasound altimeter enhanced addition of air pressure sensor, allowing more stable flight , hovering. resources available onboard computer improved, , wi-fi hardware updated follow new 802.11n standard. other sensor improvements included upgraded 3-axis gyroscope, along 3-axis accelerometer , magnetometer.

at ces 2013, parrot announced flight recorder add-on ar.drone 2.0. adds 4gb of storage drone, along gps tracking , flight data recording. allow pilots define flight path selecting series of waypoints drone follow. flight recorder features can controlled via mobile phone , desktop applications, director mode , rescue mode included. extended battery designed increase flight time 50% launched alongside flight recorder.
