overview

fides bank namibia received provisional banking license on 4 august 2009. , permanent license on 1 february 2010. institution has headquarters located in ongwediva in oshana region (north-central part of namibia). 1 of 5 commercial banks. licensed operate in country bank of namibia (the national banking regulator) , first microfinance bank created in country since independence.

history

the bank built after pilot project called koshi yomuti elo. project developed microfinance activities 2002 2010, targeting rural population seeking develop income generation activities. project started in ohangwena region , moved ondangwa in 2005, oshakati in 2006 , outapi in 2007. upon creation of bank, portfolio of loan transferred new institution, developed on msme portfolio well.

fides bank namibia active in 2 banking segments:

income generation activities financing (microfinance): activity aims @ proposing savings , loans products clientele located in rural areas of country. development of activity based on group methodology , deals populations exclusively excluded formal namibian banking system.
micro, small , medium-size enterprises financing: activity targets semi-formalized , formalized businesses, not approached traditional banks.

at end of 2012, fides bank namibia had client base of approximately 11,000 people , little above 650 microfinance groups, borrowing on average 216 euros.

as of october 2012, fides bank namibia present in 4 o regions of northern-central namibia (ohangwena, omusati, oshana , oshikoto). has network of 4 branches located in ondangwa, oshakati, oshikango , outapi. first branch opened in oshakati in april 2010. new branch open in khomas region, in katutura.
