campus

the uga costa rica campus sits @ head of san luis valley adjacent monteverde cloud forest reserve. though 155 acres in size, 10% of property contains built structures of kind, leaving majority of campus situated in web of federally protected privately owned natural forests. series of 360° photographs uploaded uga costa rica official website on february 8, 2011 providing 19 high-definition panoramic images of campus grounds. site reports interactive map follow.


altogether campus comprises 36,000 square feet (3,300 m) of built space, designed exclusively university of georgia s college of environment & design.


academic facilities
student union

this building serves uga costa rica campus central gathering space. large veranda overlooking main stretch of campus, student union houses cafeteria, library, computer lab, series of academic offices, reception area ecolodge san luis.


natural science wet laboratory

built in 2004, climate-controlled laboratory has been designed short-, mid- , long-term scientific research.


open air classrooms

renovated in 2006, these open-air classrooms used lectures, seminars, slide presentations, , variety of hands-on activities.


indoor classroom

completed in july 2007, chachalaca indoor classroom represents newest of uga costa rica s academic facilities. classroom includes equipment class presentations mounted , movable whiteboards.


student recreation center

the recreation center open-air space designated larger social functions. building completed in 2007 , includes fireplace ping pong , foosball tables.


residential facilities

uga costa rica s residential facilities include housing students, faculty, researchers, resident naturalists, , variety of interns.


cabinas

nestled among trees, cabinas primary residential area faculty teaching on study abroad programs, , serve lodging suites tourists staying @ ecolodge san luis. these twelve rooms sleep 1 4 people.


bungalows

the student bungalows primary residences study abroad program participants. sixteen rooms in 4 separate buildings sleep 4 people each, utilizing 2 bunk beds per room. each bungalow contains private bathroom, 2 desks, , ample closet space. covered veranda rings each of bungalow buildings.


resident faculty house

the resident faculty house provides private space long-term faculty or researchers. located short walk student union , sits adjacent san luis botanical garden.


casitas

five casitas available use volunteer staff , graduate researchers.


san luis botanical garden

the monteverde region home more 2,500 species of plants, including 420 species of orchids , 700 species of trees. san luis botanical garden displays small diverse sample of monteverde s botanical diversity.


the san luis botanical garden designed in summer of 2003 when 6 uga landscape architecture students spent week developing garden s master plan under tutelage of gregg coyle uga s college of environment & design. result five-acre sustainable design featuring numerous native plants identified photo-metal labels provided state botanical garden of georgia.


hiking trails

the uga costa rica campus has 2.5 kilometers of walking trails wind throughout 155 acre property, longest of being camino real trail.
