while bath road handled passenger traffic locomotives, st philip s marsh depot on eastern throat handled freight types. post nationalisation, under british railways both bath road (code: br) , st philip s marsh gained additional allocation closure of local london midland , scottish railway sheds. 1950 had allocation of 93 locomotives, half of them classic gwr 4-6-0s, of others 2-6-2ts running local , regional passenger traffic.


however, located on main national route, equally large-scale shed on opposite throat of station, bath road 1 of first sheds closed steam locomotives september 1960. rebuilt diesel depot, retained 1 of turntables.


the depot ceased operation on 28 september 1995, when last operator great western trains transferred operations st philip s marsh t&rsmd.
