R International recognition of Kosovo



on 18 february 2008, joint session of parliament of romania voted not recognise kosovo s independence 357 27, support parties except udmr. president , prime minister opposed recognition.

in february 2009, romanian foreign minister cristian diaconescu said romania not change position , not recognize kosovo s independence, contradicts norms , principles of international law , ep resolution on kosovo not binding. in september 2009, president traian băsescu announced romania partner serbia in action @ icj , said territorial partitions unacceptable, regardless of explanations [are] put forward support them.

on 24 september 2010, romanian prime minister emil boc said in address unga while romania respected icj s opinion on legality of kosovo s independence, did not examine key issue legality of creation of new state. romania continue not recognise kosovo s independence.

in march 2012 majority of romanian meps, including elena băsescu (the president s daughter), voted in favour of resolution calling on eu countries had not recognised kosovo so. in april 2012, diaconescu said far concerned, stated our approach, has not changed: romania not recognize province because not meet requirements of international laws function state. but, certainly, situation must analyzed through perspective of relation belgrade establish province .

in april 2013, following resolution european parliament urged eu members states had not recognised kosovo so, romania s prime minister victor ponta stated country must follow eu s lead. in may 2015, prime minister victor ponta stated in 2008 romania decided not recognize kosovo. however, things have changed since then. governments have changed , new decision on recognition of kosovo made ... because many things have changed in kosovo since 2008.
