while war fought on world, british began war on french possessions in north america. after long debate of relative merits of guadeloupe, produced £6 million year in sugar, versus canada expensive keep, great britain decided keep canada strategic reasons , return guadeloupe france. while war had weakened france, still european power. british prime minister lord bute wanted peace not aggravate france towards second war. explains why great britain agreed return while being in such strong position.
