from 2005 2008, kctv operated digital subchannels on virtual channels 5.2 , 5.3 on part-time basis, station used act overflow game feeds during rounds of ncaa division men s basketball tournament. in 2008, when cbs restricted stations transmit 1 multicast feed overflow telecasts, station aired additional game broadcast on kctv-dt2. need cbs stations carry early-round tournament games on multicast feeds ended in 2011, cbs began sharing broadcast rights tournament turner broadcasting system (through 3 of cable channels, tbs, tnt , trutv). in january 2017, kctv added first full-time subchannel, programming sinclair broadcast group , mgm s science fiction-themed comet network (the use of subchannels varied among meredith s stations, either being used local weather service or not being used @ all; since 2015, meredith-owned stations in several markets carry subchannels affiliated traditional , subchannel-exclusive networks).

kctv signed on digital signal on november 8, 2003, transmitting on uhf channel 24 , broadcasting cbs programming in network s 1080i high-definition resolution, local newscasts, syndicated programs , paid programming relayed station s analog signal being upconverted 1080i @ other times; since september 2011, kctv transmits local, network , syndicated programming in hd, infomercials transmitted exclusively in 480i standard-definition format preferred direct response production units.
kctv shut down analog signal, on vhf channel 5, @ 9 a.m. on june 12, 2009, official date in full-power television stations in united states transitioned analog digital broadcasts under federal mandate. station s digital signal continued broadcasts on pre-transition uhf channel 24. through use of psip, digital television receivers display station s virtual channel former vhf analog channel 5.
