highway 132 between renfrew , shamrock


highway 132 short connector highway travels between dacre , renfrew, connecting highway 41 highway 17 via highway 60. majority of route travels through canadian shield, exception of final few kilometres approaching renfrew, descends ottawa valley. because of rugged surroundings, there relatively little human habitation along route outside of communities of dacre , shamrock.


beginning @ junction highway 41 west of dacre, highway 132 progresses east mainline; drivers must turn remain on highway 41. after passing through forests 2 kilometres (1.2 mi), route enters small community of dacre, intersects former highway 513 (scotch bush road) north hyndford. leaving dacre, highway passes several farms dips south cross constant creek, tributary of madawaska river, before turning east-northeast. meanders around several large swamps , small lakes dot madawaska highlands, otherwise passing through thick forests next 8.2 kilometres (5.1 mi) until enters clearing , hamlet of shamrock.


the next 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) of highway 132 predominately surrounded impervious forests, although encounters renfrew county road 34 (whelan road) midway through section, turning northeast @ junction. route descends gradually ottawa valley before intersecting renfrew county road 5 (stone road). here forests give way agricultural fields next 4 kilometres (2.5 mi), before highway enters renfrew @ riverview drive , become urban. within renfew, follows lisgar avenue, lochiel street north , munroe avenue west before ending downtown @ intersection highway 60 (raglan avenue).


like other provincial routes in ontario, highway 132 maintained ministry of transportation of ontario. in 2010, traffic surveys conducted ministry showed on average, 2,500 vehicles used highway daily along section between renfrew county road 5 (stone road) , highway 60, while 1,600 vehicles did each day along remainder of route, highest , lowest counts along highway, respectively.
